چکیده

Molybdenum disulfide is one of the best known solid lubricants, and although it originally gained popularity in aerospace and military applications, it is now commonly found in a variety of lubrication applications. It is widely used in greases and specialized grease-like products known as pastes, in fluid lubricants such as automotive and industrial gear oils, in solid film lubricants including but not limited to burnished (rubbed-on) films, sputtered coatings, resin bonded and impingement coatings. This paper reviews the properties of MoS2 including physical and chemical properties, electrical properties, effects of temperature and oxidation as well as application areas such as greases, fluid lubricants, and solid film (dry) lubricants where molybdenum disulfide is widely implemented. * Chief Engineer, Lubrication-Climax Molybdenum ** Consulting Engineer, Solid Lubricant Solutions, Dexter, MI

Effect of Molybdenum Disulfide Particle Sizes on Wear Performance of Commercial Lubricant

Experimental investigations have been conducted for determination of effectiveness of employing a combination of three particle sizes (40 nm size, 1.75 μm size and 53 μm size) of Molybdenum Disulphide as anti-wear additive in a commercial lubricant. The conformal block and disk configuration has been used to conduct experiments for determination of wear of the sliding surfaces. The performance ...

Tribological Performance of MoS2 Coatings in Various Environments

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is a well-known solid lubricant for tribosystems running in vacuum or dry gases. Problems arise due to its sensitivity to humidity, which is a drawback for its application under ambient conditions. However, by using a physical vapor deposition (PVD) process, deposition parameters can be optimized not only to gain a coatings structure with favorable frictional propert...

Development of Single Walled Carbon Nanotube-Molybdenum Disulfide Nanocomposite/poly-ethylene Glycol Modified Carbon Paste Electrode as an Electrochemical Sensor for the Investigation of Sulfadiazine in Biological Samples

A rapid electrochemical analysis of sulfadiazine (SFZ) has been carried out by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods by employing a sensitive single walled carbon nanotube-molybdenum disulfide nanocomposite/poly ethylene glycol modified carbon paste electrode (SWCNT-MoS2/PEG/CPE). The SFZ shows anodic peak potential at 0.94 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in 0.1 M PBS of pH 7...

Quantification of a Lubricant Transfer Process that Enhances the Sliding Life of a MoS2 Coating

A lubricant transfer process that enhanced the wear life of a MoS2 coating has been identified and quantified. A steel ball sliding against a coated steel flat in reciprocating motion produced reservoirs at the turnaround part of the track ends, then emptied them, to provide replenishment similar to what is expected of liquid lubricants. The dynamics of the process were inferred from measuremen...

Ultrafast and spatially resolved studies of charge carriers in atomically thin molybdenum disulfide

Atomically thin molybdenum disulfide is emerging as a new nanomaterial with potential applications in the fields of electronic and photonics. Charge carrier dynamics plays an essential role in determining its electronic and optical properties. We report spatially and temporally resolved pump-probe studies of charge carriers in atomically thin molybdenum disulfide samples fabricated by mechanica...
